frequently asked questions

A doula is a trained and experienced birth professional who provides continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to a laboring person and the laboring person’s family. A doula provides support before, during, and after birth and during the postpartum period.

Should I take a childbirth Education class and hire a doula?

Absolutely! The more education and support you have, the better. As your doula, I will help you remember what you learned during class and help implement all of the tools you learned so that you can achieve your best birth. My package also comes with THREE classes - Prepared for Baby, Prep4Birth™, and Postpartum Recovery® (that’s how big a fan I am of childbirth education)!

I will already have someone with me during labor, so why would I need a doula?

I would never try to replace your partner, family, or friend. Instead, we will work together to help support you during birth. I am also here to support your partner and family. As a doula, I am a trained birth professional who can bring a level of knowledge and experience to help best serve you and your family.

I desire a medicated birth, so why would I need a doula?

I support medicated, unmedicated, hospital, birth center, and home births. I will be available throughout your pregnancy, birth, and postpartum to offer support, encouragement, and resources. During labor, I will be able to offer suggestions for position changes to help your labor progress, whether you have medication or not. In addition, I can provide comfort measures alongside medication. It’s about so much more than just the birth day!

What if you cannot make it to my birth?

If something were to prevent me from attending your birth, I work closely with a team of doulas who could stand in my place. I would never invite someone into your space as my back-up unless it was someone who would be welcomed into my own birth space as birth support.
